Rachel: I have not met/hung out with/fallen in love with/seen any Irish/Australian/UK/Canadian/accented boys yet. The only non-Korean that I saw was a guy eating at Popeye's the second night I was here.
Next week is tests. So, I spent all day at the school preparing tests and worksheets for the elementary students. I can admittedly say, I never appreciated the fact that my teachers spent this many hours preparing for classes. Other than that, I've been doing Kindergarten report cards (they don't have tests). I feel bad giving them low grades, because they're adorable, except when they're evil of course. But it's only the first month of school, and they've never even been in a school environment before. Obviously there's a lot that needs to be worked on.
Tomorrow, I think I may venture out on my own. By Daejeon Station (by the open market), they have an underground shopping area where you can get touristy stuff. I want to go see what it's about; maybe get some postcards or something.
I've begun asking around about the dr. fish spas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_fish There is one in Daejeon. Apparently this place called "Rodeo". It's actually a jimjilbang (http://www.seoulstyle.com/art_naked.htm ) but they offer the dr. fish also. This is where one of my American co-teachers went. I'll have to find out more from the Koreans.
Hm. . . did you want to see pictures?
Sign over the main road, where the school is. There aren't street names, just the inter- sections have names. I'm glad I'm not driving.
night time. this is what I walk through every night on the way home. I couldn't really get a good picture.
This is a chicken wing place between my school and HomePlus. I wonder if Boor in Korean means the same thing as Hooters in English.
Korea's version of a crunch bar. Except I guess you get crunk while you eat it? Some things are just lost in translation. . .
Oh what adorable students. . . one of my rambunctious Kindergardeners.
Edward Scissor-hands? This kid has a calling. He also has a tendency to shred everything into miniscule pieces when he has scissors. Thus, he doesn't often have scissors.
My desk at work. The pig is not mine.
The rest of the office. My desk sits to the right of where the picture cuts off.
More office. Yes, it is just as crazy and dis- organized in here as it looks. It drives me crazy sometimes.
Last but not least: my dinner from last night. Eggplant and pasta. I intended to use the tomatoes, but since I had no can opener or sharp object or weapon. . . I had only butter, salt, pepper, and garlic to put with it. It was edible, not sure if it beats a grilled cheese though!
My First Korean Word: annyeonghaseyo. (means good morning, good evening, and hello)
I guess technically my first word was miguk. It means American. I thought it was funny.
Dear Brenna,
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying following you in Korea. That little boy is like every other rambunctious boy in the world. I guess its universal. Take care.
