another week bites the dust.

the koreans apparently invented hopscotch. according to one of my classes. i told them i'd get back to them on that.

another class was reading a story set in chinatown. i asked them, "so where is chinatown" as the intro question because i thought it would be very easy. negative. they pondered for a minute, before replying China. (i give them credit for being logical) and they where aghast when i told them it was in New York City. Literally, they didn't believe me until I showed them the author was from NYC.

Oh, this made my day yesterday. In one of the morning classes, we did an assignment about describing people. The students had to describe one classmate and one teacher/staff member, write it on apples and put them on an apple tree. Jessica (honestly, one of my favorites) wrote about me. She said "Brenna-teacher is a girl. She is tall and has green eyes." (at first she put brown, but then I showed her they are blue, and she said 'no, green'). but the point is, she said i was TALL!!!!!!! oh i love korea. granted, she's a six year old. . .

i tried to wash clothes last night. yea. i'll have to take a pictures of this thing. i'm sure i would have shrunk/dyed/destroyed anything i put in that robot's little round cavity. i've requested some aid. so i will be washing clothes tomorrow!

i'm eating rice for dinner right now. go figure. i am using chopsticks though. oh and on that note, apparently korean chopsticks are different from other chopsticks. (they're all basically 2 sticks that you use to eat with, right?) but korean chopsticks are longer and skinnier and come with a spoon. now, i noticed the spoon, obviously. but the chopsticks didn't seem much different to me.

i got my first new student. she doesn't have an english name yet. i'm working on that. i feel like it's kind of a big deal. i was talking to another teacher about it earlier like it was legitimately my child.
K: what about jenny? there's lots of jenny's and they seem to like their name.
B: that's exactly it. i dont want to give her a name so she's just another jenny.
i'm taking this a little to seriously. but i mean come on, how many korean children have you named in your life? hmmmmmm? and sorry dad, all the boys so far have names. so there won't be a felix running around korea anytime soon. (as granddaddy rolls over in his grave. . . )

i think that's all that's interesting. report cards and tests were this week, so i've been super busy. not much time to take note of the strange new world. honestly i have no clue where this week went. it's friday already. i think it was yesterday when i woke up and it was monday. maybe korean time goes faster than american time. it sure doesn't seem like that when i'm with the kindergarten class. . . . they're angels though, really. except a few.
