The rooster crows all night long.

Although the title of this blog may seem like a line pulled from some 007 spy film, it is in fact merely a true statement. The home stay where Tom and I have been has a rooster (actually rooster/dog combo) neighbor to the south. That makes me an expert now on all things rooster. Well, no. But I can tell you they do not, in fact, hold all their crowing inside their tiny bodies in anticipation for that first ray of sunshine to break over the horizon.

Ahh. Good morning.

Now that I've had my pre-java, post-rooster rant, let's start from the beginning. Tom and I endured a long, arduous 41 hour travel day, complete with one uninspired stateside layover, one 14 hour hong kong layover, lots of uncomfortable resting places, and curious fruit in our on-flight meal.

Papaya, curious fruit, watermelon. If you can help us identify the suspect in the middle please contact me via the comments section. It was delicious though!

If you've been on a plane, you are familiar with the dis/comforts of being in said state. So, I'm not going to bore you with any fruitless details. It was basically your average travel day, multiplied by 7. But i will leave you with this. This is how excited we were before takeoff.

(I accidently left this one sideways. I'll have to work on my skills I guess.)

As I'm typing this, we are beginning Day 3. At least I'm pretty sure it's day 3. I think a few mathematical brain cells fell out when we crossed the equator. With all the currency conversion (1 US$ = 9,000.9 IDR) and time change (+14 from CST) going on, let's just say I feel a little fried. Regardless, I seem to have begun the photo-popping part of this trip much like the blog-writing ended up in Korea: poor and inadequate. But at least you can tell the one thing I'm excited about.

FOOD!!!!!! Ok so not to kick Korea in the kimchi, but the food here is insurmountably better. Sure, there are a few dishes thatt I miss from Korea, but I could eat an entire restaurant in Bali. Uhhm, yea so I've basically only taken Pictures of the meals we've eaten. Before you judge me, let me say this: we haven't done much besides eat and sleep, and the occasional dip in the pool since arriving (oh yea, my hair is blue). So boohoo poor us. Wah wah wah!!! I know. But really I will take more pictures walking around of the everyday things we've run across. Roosters, beach, stray dogs, nagging merchants, barefoot 'construction' workers, Hindu offering baskets, traffic, specifically motorbike traffic, etc. I'll get you some of those pictures. Promi… I'm not going to say that word. I've broken your hopes and dreams before. So I'll just say that I'll try my best. Here's a bunch of delicious food: [insert pics]

mmmmm. fish curry.

mmmm fish satay (mahi mahi). . . sideways.

mmm chicken with "traditional balinese sauce" and yum leaf

mmmm crispy duck!

The last two were our thanksgiving dinners.
